ColdTowne Named Best Comedy Group by the Austin Chronicle!
From the Austin Chronicle: What do you get when a bunch of displaced NOLA kids start doing improv locally, gaining enough exposure and word-of-mouth to turn the ever-empty Space in to something useful: a place to laugh? You get ColdTowne, changing tragedy into comedy, their fate into a movement of laughter, right here in our lucky town. No one could ever be grateful for Katrina, but our readers are very grateful for ColdTowne coming to our town.
The Austinist Interviews ColdTowne on their 2 Year Anniversary with Austin
The Out of Bounds Improv Festival and Miniature Golf Tournament ended on Monday after six days of blithe musings from some of the finest improv and sketch-comedy troupes in the country. In its sixth year, Out of Bounds reached new heights of comedic exuberance over the past weekâand, more importantly, surely introduced a new universe of humor to an unimaginable quantity of newcomers.
But for some, Out of Bounds was more than a once-a-year opportunity to take to the stage and construct entire worlds of thought from nothing more than ephemeral impulses of wit and satire. For the improv troupe Coldtowne, Out of Bounds was an anniversary. Coldtowne relocated to Austin just over two years ago after being removed from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. Out of Bounds was their starting point in a new city; Out of Bounds was their Big Bang.
Since moving to Austin, Coldtowne has opened a theater, established an improv conservatory, and, just under three weeks ago, graduated a class of improv students. We spoke with Michael Jastroch, Tami Nelson, Chris Trew, and Justin York of Coldtowne about their perspective on Austin since their first Out of Bounds festival.

ColdTowne Every Saturday Night at 10:00p at the ColdTowne Theater!

The best way to see ColdTowne is on their home turf, The ColdTowne Theater every Saturday night at 10:00p. ColdTowne are comedy festival veterans, performing in Tucson, Oberlin, Phoenix, New York City, Chicago, Chapel Hill, Austin, Washington D.C., and Toronto. They've also performed in Los Angeles, Dallas, Shreveport and New Orleans.
Whether playing strangers stuck in an elevator, dysfunctional family members at a wedding party, or aimless aging monsters reminiscing about the crying of children, the performers of ColdTowne relish the awkward games people play. Using a single audience suggestion as inspiration, ColdTowne creates a long-form improvised show that incorporates the absurd, the mundane, and rockstar characters that makes heads explode.

ColdTowne's Chris Trew Releases First Album!
Terp 2 it released his first album The Freshest Dude earlier this year in association with Studio 8 Studios. It features assistance from fellow ColdTowners Michael Jastroch and Tami Nelson and wants you to discover it on iTunes (just search for it, bra) or at the ColdTowne Theater where if you ask that lovely lady behind the counter for it and show her a twelve-dollar bill, she just might give you a copy.
